With Bondax on the way to their first release with Just Us Recordings, they have found some time to remix former Paloma Faith guitarist and artist in his own right, Seye Adelekan (yep, Gbenga from Metronomy is his brother.)

A stomping fusion of Seye’s vocals, stabby synth and broken garage beats, Bondax accentuate the Bounce element of the track and you have to be pretty strong willed to resist the urge to tap along. Brilliant tune, proving once again Bondax’s mastery of the chopped up vocal sample and it’s great that Britains producers are keeping up the summery vibes even if the weather isn’t.

Big things abound for Sepia, the London based producer, and with remixes for Ollie Macfarlane and Anneka under his belt, he is quickly gaining recognition for his fundamental approach to garage and eclectic taste behind the decks.

This a preview for his new EP, forthcoming on Basslight. Get to know.

Absolute smasher by the 17 year old, free download here from Annie Mac’s soundcloud. You may remember Bwana from recent slow burner There’s Nothing Left, but Karma Kid takes their ambient and floaty take on house and steps it up through a combination of shuffling hits, piercing sine waves and some cheeky 808’s.

A belated review, but if you have samples the album you will understand the time it takes to digest a piece of work such as Time Team… outstanding, cosmic, intelligent… I could carry on with synonyms for awesome but I won’t. The first thing a keen listener and someone custom to Slugabed will notice after a listen through, is the quota of quantised tracks. This doesn’t mean that he has tamed his sound in anyway, finding other ways to pervert the norm and deliver subversive post-dance music, though it is notable that the stand out tracks retain his characteristic swung, odd time signatures that are a no no for mixing live.

Hot Sugar - #MindControl

This dropped on Ninjatune last month, only just got a chance to have a listen today, glitchy little foot tapper from New York. Then I checked out the music video, which is even more cracked out than the tune itself…. NSFW, but don’t get too excited. Full review of the Moon Money EP very soon, shaping up to be very positive so far.
Like many of Kahns previous tracks, Angeles takes a catchy vocal progression, cuts it up and uses it as a coagulant for his liquid synth and understated drums. Pure garage influence on this one, the level of restraint is perfect, with the omnipresence of it about to really kick off throughout the tune, and knowing what Kahn is like with VIP’s, expect a punchier reiteration in the future. A solid follow up to the recent Margeaux EP, with a stronger and accessible vibe, it is definately more dancefloor friendly, albeit in a completely different way to the recently (and limitedly) pressed, aptly named Percy.
No, not this one.

Astro Nautico are giving away more music over at bandcamp, this time a full length from recently featured and Oakland based, Space Ghost. A selection of crunky beats and divergent synths, definately worth the hassle of clicking three links and price of nil.

Since bursting into business a few months ago with the stampy Work EP, the tital track an inventive blend of claps and grainy shouts, the powerful match up of Bobmo and Surkin have distilled their sound into an momentous EP of contrasts. With Bobmo bringing the beats and Surkin the synth, the synergy between them creates something different all together, but it is really the restraint which characterises the release. It’s a bastard child of garage, techno and dubstep which utilises these components with some killer vocals and convential song structure to craft a stand out cross genre banger.

The Machine is a moody swinger with some serious Night Slugs action going on, Chords a floaty progression of ethereal synth but it is The Bim Bam Song which is the standout track in the collection. An underivative miasma of biting hits and a mesmerising use of vocal samples, it could be a bit too much for some people and almost evokes slowed down juke.

Progessive and catchy as fuck, it could prove to be the jewel on the crown for the EP, if it weren’t for Mind Games, a rolling foot stamper, once again utilising a vocal sample to an almost hypnotic level. Carrying on the aggressive approach to the BPM that Streetwise takes, the song pounds through to a monstrous second drop where the stabs of synth coalesce with an evolved beat and the mantra to provide a gully riddim… if you were to put it in those terms. Absolute pleasure to mix but all stand alone tracks, get it.

Kastle - Stay Forever EP

Symbols Recordings launch EP, Stay Forever is a quadruple A-side production, with none of the filler that sometimes proves customary with Kastles releases.

The haunting titular track, is a moody 100bpm slow burner which oozes with sumptuous pitch bending synths and a vocal track that some will recall from Hackmans chiming anthem Close. Don’t Look Back uses it’s hits and clicks to power a song with a sparse use of garagey vocals and sporadic wavey synths, the drum track definately being the pull in for this song, also showing a different side to Kastle’s production techniques, characterised by his wide and fully layered songs. Can’t Explain is a continuation of this theme, with the rolling hits / break formula, though a lot more colourful through the use of some xylophones and triangles, a bouncier bass line and a wider range of chords.

You Said rounds off the Symbols debut with a restrained collaboration with Miami powerhouse Austin Paul, tumbling through 808s and 80’s synth, Pauls vocals, given a treatment by Kastle, link this little stepper into something bigger than the some of it’s parts. It also has breakdowns… Brilliant release from Kastle, stimulating lofty aspirations for the artist and his label, cementing both’s credentials and putting the artist back on track after a shaky period, big things, big things…

Shaping up to be a fully rounded release, weighing in at 5 tracks, TNGHT already look like they are going to leave a huge boot shaped stamp on the face of dance music.

If you’ve seen Rubber, then you will know what to expect from the filmmaker, and probably will find the first installment of Wrong Cops fairly tame by the formers standards. If you aren’t customised to Quentins surreal locations, sharp dialogue and the general “meta” feel of his work, Wrong Cops is a solid place to dive in.
